Hello all! It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us. It seems that school just started in August!! After our little leaf adventure last Saturday, three of the four in our family have been fighting off either allergies or a cold. Blair has his voice back somewhat; Brody is over his asthma; Mallory is still fighting it. Lacey, you would be so proud of Blair; he is "fighting" this off with no pills. He has even tried the echinicae (sp?) you left for us and aspirating his naval cavities. So since all have been sick, today I decided that I would attack the leaf mess in the front. After living in our home now for 4 1/2 years, I have learned that our home seems to be the dumping ground for all the leaves. Somehow, they just blow into our yard, and don't seem to blow anywhere else. They love to make their home here with us. I know that God has a season for everything, but I wonder what his plan for the leaves were once they fell off. If you know, I guess you can send me a reply and let me know how dumb I am. Well, the front is somewhat clean for now. My nose only ran while I was outside working. I am trying to prevent my almost 81 year old grandmother from having to come clean up the front of my house like last year when she made her visit.

Many of you have been anticipating what was to happen when Brody walked down the aisle as the ringbearer. It went fairly smoothly. He told everyone that he was a prince and he was walking down with his princess. He proceeded to tell the princess (so everyone could hear) that she was not to throw the flowers out of her basket. There was a slight hesitation as if he would not go, but then he changed his mind. They made it to the front and as soon as the bride began walking down the aisle he took several steps down as if he was leaving. He caught my eye and quickly moved back up. He also thought it was his birthday and that he would dance with the flower girl afterwards. There was no dancing, but he sure did enjoy the punch and cake. He was a livewire after inhaling all that sugar. Mallory just enjoyed the show and smiled her normal grin!

I hope that this finds each of you looking forward to Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for - for smiles, for health, for family and friends, for children, for a safe home, for a chance to serve God, for love, and for opportunity. We will be traveling to what I like to call the North Pole for Thanksgiving in Amarillo. Who knows maybe it will be a white Thanksgiving? Enjoy your days with your family and may God bless each of you!

Hello Again...It's Been Awhile

Well,

Needless to say it has been awhile since I said anything on my blog or sent out an email. I have been inspired by my sister to do a better job of informing you all (if you care) of what is going on in our small part of the world. Lacey has been sending weekly updates from Oregon, and we have thoroughly enjoyed them. We also received a long hand-written letter from Blair's sweet grandmother Geco this week that made me stop to think that I should do a better job of stopping to write a few things down. So, from inspiration from a grandma and sister to my roots of writing (thanks Aunt Becki), I have decided to make an attempt to post a weekly/biweekly update on the "Goings-On of the Gibson's.)

It has been another uneventful week or eventful...depends on how you look at things. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous. Brody came in one day and asked me to come outside with him; he proudly exclaimed, "The leaves are changing Momma; look." He also wanted Daddy to come mow the leaves after they started falling. We spent yesterday in the leaves and all are paying today with asthma, coughing, and no voices! Oh well, we had fun in our piles of leaves. (I will try to post some pictures with this.) It is amazing how little children see the world from such a different perspective. I enjoy slowing down and noticing things with Brody that I might have missed had he not reminded me.

We also spent our Friday night at the Highland Hornet football game. Brody has grown quite fond of a few of the Hornet Football players. In fact, his prayers this week have been for "Cameron and Jordan to do their best and to take care of business." Don't know where that came from. I have a sweet picture of his two favorite players that I will try to post also - Cameron and Jordan.

Mallory is just her sweet self. She allows Brody to pounce and roll all over her. She has become quite the "scooter" on the floor and can get anywhere she wants. She smiles a lot and loves to swing outside. (Snapped a picture of that too...that I will try to post.) I caught her exchanging some smiles with a man at church that is wheel-chair bound and dying of cancer. I smiled to myself because my daughter was able to do something for his day that possibly I could not have done through words. May you know Mallory that God smiles on you and things just like that we do every day for him.

Blair has been busy on another website and a lot of tshirts this week. His latest website was for Mom and Dad's church - www.37thcoc.org. We have been blessed in our new adventure and enjoy our time spent as a family.

Knowing that naptime is approaching an end, I will close on this lovely Sunday afternoon. May God bless each of you this week and help you to enjoy the small things of life - seasons changing, smiles of children's faces, and a lick from your favorite dog.

Brody enjoyed his 2nd birthday at home with some sweet friends and Pock and Mothers who joined us! I decided to be Martha Stewart and try the layered cupcake style cake. (Note to self or next time - make sure all the cupcakes are exactly the same size or you will have the Leaning Tower of Cupcakes.) They tasted great and I guess that is all that matters! Brody received a new basketball goal from Mom and Dad and a new TV chair from Pock and Mothers. He already likes to slam dunk it!

Happy New Year 2009 to all of our friends and family!

Well, the Gibson Newsletter has taken a hit in delivery due to either the economic crisis, lack of time, or the fact that many of you throw away our precious picture and letter after a month of not knowing what to do with it. (Thank you to my friend Thompson who I am assured scrapbooks all of our sweet pictures into a scrapbook for future memories. :)) So, since we are cheap this year, we are sending out our greetings via email, blog, and Facebook. That way you will have no problem hitting the delete button when it is time!

2008 has been a wonderful year in Sweetwater, TX. (Or as my friend Ginger Paty likes to say, "Life is sweet in Sweetwater...if you can imagine that!") God truly pours his blessings down on us in so many different ways!

Brody will be two in January; it is hard to believe that he has reached so many milestones in this past year. Not only has he taken his first steps, he is talking up a storm, grown beautiful blonde curly locks, and learned about every ball and sport imaginable. Yes, he follows in my all-star athletic footsteps (Mel will kill me for saying this) and loves Friday night "pootball" games. His favorite part of the game is after kicks when he screams out "Boosh....kick it!" He loves Thomas the train and cars in addition to balls. He is extremely independent, stubborn, and outspoken, which I am confident comes from Mel's gene pool. He continues to harrass our poor dog Major and tell him where and what he should be doing. He is all boy and loves the ladies; in fact, he received many "notices of concern" on his report sheet for his half-day school that would report that he gets on top of the girls. We think we have outgrown that phase but have our eyes open. There are some moments in time when you just try to "soak it all in," and this past year has been full of just enjoying and laughing at all the fun moments we have experienced with him.

We were surprised to find out in June that we were expecting again. We are on the countdown and look forward to a precious girl March 11th?? The nursery is painted pink, and Melanie has been driving me mad with her nesting habits. We have officially cleaned out almost every area of the house to prepare for the addition and for a "garage sale." What does Brody think of a new baby? His only comment has been throwing a baby doll at the TV when told that he was going to have a baby at his house. We hope it grows on him and look forward to the challenge and blessing of having two in the house now. It's hard to imagine your heart holding any more love for another child, but we have been told by our friends that it is possible!

As for Mel, yes, she does amaze me from time to time! She continues to teach half-day reading intervention groups at the elementary school while Brody attends our church preschool in the morning. They spend time together in the afternoon! She also graduated from Abilene Christian University with her Master's in December with a degree in Leadership of Learning. Her dream is to one day become an elementary principal when our children are in school. We are all excited to have her finished with her online madness! She also helps me out with the youth group by teaching class and just being my right-hand man.

As for me, I continue to be the youth minister at 4th and Elm here in Sweetwater! We were blessed with a great summer when one of our old youth group kids from Marble Falls and a girl from our group in Sweetwater were our interns. It seemed like we never stopped - Tulsa mission trip, camping trip, lake trip, guys' off-road trip, Amarillo mission trip, Camp Blue Haven...in addition to Sunday and Wednesday classes and hanging out. Needless to say, I felt almost 30 by the end of the summer and felt the aches and pains of too many basketball games and sleeping on the floor. The latest joke from one of our students has been photographing the bald spot that I am apparently growing on the back of my head!

In my spare time, I have quit watching Sports Center quite as much...thanks to the nudging of my wife and have taken up a side-business! I have always loved designing things and have found many ways to do that in the past few years. So, we ventured out and starting a small business called His Image. My first job was designing a church website and also videoing and editing a wedding. My video editing went into full swing when I edited and made a highlight video for our 6-man school Highland every Friday night deep into the playoffs. I also purchased a t-shirt press from the Camp's and design and make shirts for a lot of the Sweetwater schools. I am currently working on a cattle website (only in Sweetwater do you get the opportunity to feature cattle on the web) and have a few more lined up to do. If you ever need t-shirts, website, or video editing, just ask; we would love to grow our business! (And yes, Mel has to handle all the business aspects due to my lack of organizational skills!)

We look forward to what God has in store for us in 2009! We know that storms and blessings are ahead for us but our confidence is in God almighty that he will give us exactly what we need in the upcoming year! Mel is Graduated!

So, to all you bloggers out there...yes Melanie Gibson does still exist. I am still alive even though our blog has not been updaed much over the last 2 years since it was opened. Needless to say, my time has been consumed with online graduate work! BUT, no fear, I have finally graduated and hope to get back in touch with all of you through Blog and Facebook. However, I do not make any promises because I have a new arrival coming in March with the birth of a new little one!

Graduation was much different this time around in geting my Master's. Besides the fact that you get hooded on stage in front of everyone, it was a feeling of knowing how much I and my family had to sacrifice to get to that moment. (And I thank God for Blair; he allowed me to follow my dream while giving Brody baths, putting him to bed, and doing many things to help us out. My mom has also cleaned my house, watched my child, and gone above and beyond to help me achieve my dreams.) It was very sweet! I got to gather with all my online buddies for a reception beforehand and meet some of them for the first time.

You may wonder why in the world I got my Master's now. I hope to one day be an elementary principal or work in administration dealing with cirriculum, etc. I jumped at the opportuniy to do it all online when I found out that ACU was offering this new degree Leadership of Learning. And yes, to answer your question, I learned more in an online learning community than I ever did in my undergraduate degree. Right now, I want to focus on being a great mom for my family, so my dream is on hold until my children are in school. And who knows where God will lead me? I may never be an elementary principal, but I do know I learned so much from the journey of the last 2 1/2 years.

For all my friends, thanks for enduring me not keeping in very good contact with you. To my husband Blair, I love that you let me become who God has created me to be and support me all the way. I couln't have done it without you. To Brody, thanks for letting me hold you while I logged online; thanks for letting me read and write while you played, napped, or watched another episode of Veggie Tales. To my extended family, thanks for encouraging me and asking how you could help me as I made this journey! Most of all, I thank God that he allowed me the chance to use the intelligence he created withinme to find how I can serve him best!

I leave ACU with no debt (thanks to some incredibly generous scholarship donors) except the fact that I am in debt to all of you for loving me through this journey in my life. May God bless each of you!

Brody enjoyed eating his first rice cereal at 3 1/2 months old. Of course, most of it was all over his face, but we think he swallowed some of it. He is almost 4 months...we think he is mastering the art of swallowing and eating with a spoon. Oh the joys of watching a little one grow and change so fast!

Brody made his first long trip - 7 whole hours in the rain. He slept from 11:30 to 6:30 and even through the night. While there, we attended Traci Eicke's wedding and stayed with Aunt Joshie and Uncle Britt. They took us to Kyle field and the campus. We enjoyed a fried avocado for dinner that night. Mikey and Aunt Kari also came to meet Brody on Saturday. He really enjoyed his trip.
